It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Mrs. Malky Mitnick a”h of Flatbush, Brooklyn.

Mrs. Mitnick was the wife of Rav Mordechai Mitnick and the daughter of Rav Elya Kanarek, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Ohr Hameir of Peekskill, and Rebbetzin Rivka Leah Kanarek.

From her home and throughout her many years in chinuch, she exemplified the finest hashkafos of a Torah life infused with warmth, responsibility, and purpose.

She served as the principal of Lev Bais Yaakov of Flatbush, where she was a true mechaneches, deeply invested in the spiritual and emotional growth of every talmidah entrusted to her care. With clarity, dignity, and unwavering values, she guided her students not only in their studies, but in how to live lives rooted in yiras Shamayim, refinement, and emunah.

For many years, Mrs. Mitnick was also a devoted staff member at Camp Bnos, where she became a magnet for the girls. Her warmth, sincerity, and quiet strength drew countless campers to her, and her influence extended far beyond the formal classroom setting. Girls instinctively gravitated toward her, sensing her genuine care, wisdom, and ability to listen and uplift.

Those who worked alongside her recall a woman of uncommon insight and resolve, whose leadership was marked by thoughtfulness and whose impact was felt long after any conversation ended. She understood the sacred responsibility of educating young bnos Yisroel and approached her role with a profound sense of mission, instilling confidence, self-respect, and a deep connection to Torah and mesorah.

Mrs. Mitnick is survived by her devoted husband; her parents; her children, R’ Yisroel Eliezer Mitnick, R’ Yosef Chaim Mitnick, Mrs. Chani Rottenstreich, Mrs. Miriam Krupenia, R’ Yaakov Mitnick, Mrs. Chaya Ausband, and Dovid Mitnick; and her siblings, Mrs. Rochel Marder, Rav Uri Meir Kanarek, Rav Chaim Kanarek, Rav Zev Kanarek, Mrs. Shulamis Ginsburg, Mrs. Leeba Marsh, Ms. Hadassah Kanarek, Rav Gershon Kanarek, and R’ Dovid Kanarek. She also leaves behind generations of talmidos and countless admirers who were shaped by her guidance and inspired by her integrity.

The levayah will take place on Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. at Shomrei Hadas Chapel in Boro Park. Kevurah will take place at the bais olam in Beit Shemesh, Israel.

Yehi zichrah baruch.

  1. There is a different Mrs. Mitnick who taught in bybp elementary. Not the same person. Hope she’s doing well.
The Lev elementary principal was another woman who remembered the names of the high school students in addition to her own! May her neshama have an aliyah.
