Mrs. Miriam Kamenetzky a”h

It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Mrs. Miriam Kamenetzky a”h of Toronto.

Mrs. Kamenetzky was the wife of Rav Zvi Kamenetzky, principal at Joe Dwek Ohr HaEmet Sephardic School in Toronto.

She was a daughter of Rav Yehuda Oelbaum, noted mechanech and longtime menahel of Machon Bais Yaakov Hilda Birn High School in Boro Park, Brooklyn. She was a daughter-in-law of Rav Binyomin Kamenetzky zt”l, Torah pioneer in the Five Towns and founder of Yeshiva of South Shore.

Mrs. Kamenetzky and her husband originally resided in Chicago, where Rav Zvi was a member of the Chicago Community Kollel and then an 8th grade rebbi at Arie Crown Hebrew Day School. He was then a rebbi and mashgiach at HTC’s Fasman Yeshiva High School before leaving Chicago to accept a position as principal at Joe Dwek Ohr HaEmet Sephardic School in Toronto.

Mrs. Kamenetzky battled difficult illness for the last period with tremendous gevurah and emunah. An isha chashuvah, Mrs. Kamenetzky was a role model throughout her years, serving as a devoted wife. a dedicated matriarch to her own family and an example to others. Her lev tov and her selfless nature were complemented by the dignity and humility with which she always carried herself.

Mrs. Kamenetzky is survived by her husband, Rav Zvi; her parents, Rav Yehuda and Rebbetzin Masha Oelbaum; her siblings, R’ Dovid Oelbaum, R’ Avrohom Oelbaum, R’ Eli Oelbaum, Mrs. Tzivi Goldstein, R’ Yitzchok Oelbaum, Mrs. Esti Rosenberg, Mrs. Chani Rajchenbach, Mrs. Sori Saks and R’ Shloimy Oelbaum; her children, R’ Yaakov Kamenetzky, R’ Ponchos Eliyahu Kamenetsky, Mrs. Esther Gross, Mrs. Leah Seliger, Chaim Kamenetsky, Moshe Kamenetzky, Baruch Kamenetzky and Bashie Kamenetzky; and her grandchildren.

The levaya will be held tonight at 8:30 p.m. at Bais Yaakov High School of Toronto. Kevurah will take place tomorrow, at 10 a.m., in Woodbridge, NJ.
