Mubarak Reportedly Will Be Released

mubarak1A lawyer for Hosni Mubarak said on today that an Egyptian court has ordered the release of the deposed president, who has been jailed since his ouster in 2011.

There has been no official confirmation from the military-backed government, and authorities could find other reasons to keep him in jail. It’s unclear how Egyptians will react to Mubarak’s release, especially as the news comes after six days of protests by supporters of President Mohamed Morsi, who was replaced by a military government on July 3.

Mubarak, 85, has been charged with ordering police to fire on protesters in the 2011 coup, and he is tied to alleged corruption as well. Read more.
