Mubarak to Return to Prison

mubarak1Today, Egyptian Prime Minister Hazem el-Beblawi announced that former President Hosni Mubarak will return to prison after lawmakers changed a law restricting detention to two years.

Mubarak has been under house arrest at a military hospital for two years, and will be retried on charges of killing 900 protestors during the 2011 uprising, and also faces corruption charges.

Also today, ousted President Mohammed Morsi was allowed a visit by his family for the first time since power was seized in a military coup four months ago. “He is more steadfast and bold,” his wife said after leaving the maximum-security prison. Read more at The New York Times.
