Muhammad Ali, the three-time heavyweight boxing champion of the world, who declared himself “the greatest” and proved it with his fists, the force of his personality and his magnetic charisma, and who transcended the world of sports to become a symbol of the antiwar movement of the 1960s and a global ambassador for cross-cultural understanding, died June 3 at a hospital in Scottsdale, Ariz., where he was living. He was 74.

The boxer had been hospitalized with respiratory problems after years of suffering from Parkinson’s disease, which had been diagnosed in the 1980s.

  1. I you are already reporting the death of this tzaddik yesod olam, why didn’t you ask us to say tehillim for him when he was hospitalized?

  2. He has a daughter in Philadelphia who had a conservative conversion. His grandson has a “Bar Mitzva” a couple of years ago.

  3. The reason these articles are important to post is because we can learn the difference between the role models of the umos ha’olam and, lehavdil, our role models. It allows us to understand their mentality, so we can better deal with them. It also allows us to have better kavanah when we make the berachah shelo asani goi.

  4. BELIEVE IT OR NOT.
MANY YEARS AGO BEFORE HIS ILLNESS , HE VISITED A JEWISH SENIOR CITIZENS CENTER.
HE PLEDGED A DONATION OF $150,000.
    HE HONORED THE PLEDGE.

  5. All you need to do is Google Ali’s name and “Jewish” and see you will see his hateful comments towards Klal Yisrael throughout the years.

In addition, he was a draft-dodger, declaring “The Viet Cong are not my enemy; the white man is my enemy”.

    Enough said.

  6. For over a decade he was involved with the Nation of Islam. But he seems to have followed Malcolm X and Warith Deen Muhammed rather than Louis Farrakhan and Elijah Muhammed even back then. He and Warith Deen Muhammed abandoned the Nation of Islam’s racism and anti-Semitism four decades ago. Warith Deen Muhammed even visited Israel.
