Tech entrepreneur, billionaire, and Trump confidant Elon Musk caused a stir with a tweet asserting that Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and Mao Zedong were not directly responsible for the deaths of millions.
His post stated, “Stalin, Mao, and Hitler didn’t murder millions of people. Their public sector employees did.”
Musk’s remark comes as he faces ongoing clashes with the public sector, advocating for reducing government bureaucracy and limiting wasteful spending in the United States.
Many swiftly criticized him for appearing to diminish the responsibility of three of history’s most notorious mass murderers.
The individual who originally shared the tweet later clarified their position, writing, “After the Nuremberg trials, the so-called ‘superior orders’ defense – ‘I was just following orders’ – is considered invalid under international law. Individual rather than collective responsibility for your actions is enshrined in law.”
Musk has previously faced accusations of making a Nazi salute during Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration in January. During the event, he struck his chest before raising his right arm at an angle towards the sky. He then turned his back to the audience and repeated the motion towards the rear of the stage.
At the time, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) stepped in to defend him, stating, “It seems that [Musk] made an awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm, not a Nazi salute,” urging both political camps to avoid jumping to conclusions.

But the statement is correct. None of theese tyrant murderers could have murdered so many people without the “public sector employees” doing what they did. That’s the point being made. It’s not minimizing or diminishing the responsibility of any of those tyrants. It’s the sad truth: It takes more than a madman to commit tyrany. Look at all these Hamas supporters in the streets of the US of A. Haman had to send proclemations to 127 countries to murder the Jews, he couldn’t do it all by himself.
