Law enforcement officials confirmed that cocaine was discovered at the White House over the weekend, but one official familiar with the investigation cautioned that due to its location in a heavily trafficked area of the West Wing, it would be challenging to determine the source of the drug, Politico reports.
The cocaine was found in a cubby area designated for storing electronics within the West Exec basement entryway, a space accessible to authorized personnel, including staff and visitors on West Wing tours.
Asked what the chances were of finding the culprit, the official said that “it’s gonna be very difficult for us to do that because of where it was.”
“Even if there were surveillance cameras, unless you were waving it around, it may not have been caught” by the cameras, added the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity given that it’s an ongoing investigation. “It’s a bit of a thoroughfare. People walk by there all the time.”
During a Wednesday briefing, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed the reports about the cocaine being discovered in a high-traffic area used by staff and visitors. She mentioned that President Joe Biden and his family had left Washington on Friday and returned in time for the White House’s annual Fourth of July celebration.
Jean-Pierre refrained from providing further details or answering additional questions, deferring to the Secret Service, which is leading the ongoing investigation with the assistance of the FBI.
“Let’s let the Secret Service do their job, which we believe and have all the confidence that they will get to the bottom of this episode,” Jean-Pierre said.
A Secret Service officer from the uniformed division discovered the cocaine on Sunday evening around 6 p.m. As the officer was uncertain about the substance, security measures at the White House were temporarily heightened. The D.C. Fire Department was called to assess the situation, and the substance was determined to be nonhazardous. It was subsequently sent to a central laboratory for further testing.

They should hunt for the culprit
This administration is thee most transparent in our Nations racist history. There are no cover-ups here.
Of course they probably won’t find the guilty party. It can put the wrong people in a bad light.
There is no way that security in the white house is so lax that they can not find the culprit if they wanted to
Just imagine had cocaine been found in the white house when Trump was president….
It’s called executive privilege.
And they almost certainly will not get to the bottom of it.
Remember that they closed down and evacuated the White House because they thought at first it might be Anthrax.
Let’s imagine that it WAS Anthrax. Are you telling me that the most secure building in the US, possibly in the world, was the target of a successful terror attack using chemical weapons, and there’s no way to know who perpetrated the attack?????
