New Jersey’s infamously high property tax bills topped $8,500 per home in 2016, a 2.35 percent increase over the previous year, according to figures released this week by the Department of Community Affairs, NJ.com reports.
Property owners paid $8,549 – $196 more than they did in 2015 when the average tax bill rose about 2.2 percent, according to the analysis. The average residential bill has risen from $8,161 in 2014 to $8,353 in 2015 to $8,549 in 2016.
Each year, the average bill set a new high bar for what Garden State property owners pay.
“Rising property values largely triggered the slight rise in residential property taxes observed in 2016,” Governor Chris Christie’s spokesman Brian Murray said in a statement. “Regardless, the annual increase in property taxes have averaged 2.04 percent since Governor Christie took office in 2010 — very close to the 2 percent annual cap he put into place to curb runaway taxation in New Jersey.”
Hey, the big guy’s gotta eat!
If that’s the case, so what is the big rush to move to Lakewood? At the end of the day, are you really saving money?
Also, there is no question, that NJ is losing millions upon millions of dollars of revenue on gasoline. The price of gasoline is the same as NY, where it was once, on average, at least 30 cents cheaper. There is no need to “fill up” in NJ anymore. I attended a chasunah this week in Lakewood and the price of gas on the GSP was 2.46 for regular. Are you kidding me? We have it for cheaper, right here on Coney Island Avenue. During the summer, there won’t be a need to stop by the last gas station on the Palisades anymore. NJ is takeh the dumbest most corrupt State in the Nation.
