New York, once the epicenter of the nation’s coronavirus outbreak, has a message for the rest of America: Wear a mask.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo, D, launched a national ad campaign Thursday to urge Americans to wear face coverings in public to stop the spread of the virus.

The campaign, titled “Mask Up America,” was co-produced by Academy Award-winning director Kathryn Bigelow and features celebrities such as Robert De Niro, Jamie Foxx, Rosie Perez and Ellen Pompeo.

“We want to be sure all Americans know what we know here — that it is essential to wear a mask in order to protect one another,” Cuomo said in a statement.

The ad campaign, which was created in partnership with the Ad Council, includes eight 30-second spots that will air across the country on donated media.

In one ad, images of people wearing masks appear on the screen while the actor Morgan Freeman says, “When you wear a mask, you have my respect.

“Because your mask doesn’t protect you, it protects me,” Freeman says. “I wear my mask to protect you. Be New York tough. Mask up, America.”

In addition to the political benefit of raising the governor’s national profile, Cuomo’s public-policy rationale for the ad campaign is rooted in his repeatedly expressed concern that high infection rates in other states could bring about the virus’s return to New York. He’s imposed a two-week quarantine on travelers from more than 20 states upon entering New York, requiring them to give personal contact information, and warning that violators could face a $2,000 fine.

The ad campaign arrives as many people still refuse to wear face coverings in public, despite health experts saying it can slow the spread of the virus.

The commercials also debut with the number of Covid-19 cases surging in states such as Florida and Texas. Meanwhile, New York has seen its virus cases decline. New York City reached a new milestone Sunday, reporting its first day with zero confirmed or probable virus deaths since the pandemic hit.

    • I like DeBlasio’s Presidential campaign slogan better, “Don the Con”. Wow, what a smashing success that was.

  1. Rebreathing CO2 (carbon dioxide) can lead to increased blood pressure, headaches, muscle twitches, rapid heart rate, chest pain, confusion, and fatigue. In extreme cases, if left untreated, hypercapnia can lead to organ damage and even have long standing effects on the brain.

If nobody wears masks because of the danger they won’t be able to arrest everyone.

    • Oh! So you want me not to wear a mask, and keep trying to convince me by lying about its health effects, because you want me to be “arrested” or should I say “disappeared” by criminal squads? And that’s because you don’t like that I am a member of the “CABAL” i.e. the small number of successful people, and that you are not? And since you can’t compete successfully with me in business, and you don’t appear to have a family either, you want me and my family “eradicated”? Am I understanding you wrong?

        • Inebriated or not (I’m about to welcome the Shabbos Queen) the question remains: do you support unlawful arrests carried out outside of the police and judiciary, exploiting the fact that such kidnappings are more likely to go unnoticed at this time? And simultaneously you’re posting that masks are supposedly unhealthy and that Democrats and Fauci and the Chinese etc. are using the virus “hoax” to damage President Trump.

Is my synopsis correct? Inquiring minds would indeed like to know.

    • When people talk about the “dangers of rebreathing Co2” they mean if you are in a room that somehow filled with Co2. Masks are not tightly woven enough to block Co2 (although they do block corona virus, which is about .12 microns, plus the size of water droplets the virus bonds to, compared to Co2’s 0.00065 microns).

  2. Who left the door open, some conspiracy theorists crept in the comments.

Dear conspiracy theorist nuts, please PUT ON A MASK AND STOP SPEWING YOUR GERMS ON THE REST OF THE WORLD
