nat-lewinThe publishers of “Best Lawyers in America” released the results yesterday of their “exhaustive and rigorous peer-review survey” for 2014, based upon “more than three million confidential evaluations by top attorneys.”  Nathan Lewin was voted by his peers to be one of the “Best Lawyers in America” in five distinct categories:

1. Appellate Practice

2. Bet-the-Company Litigation

3. Commercial Litigation

4. Criminal Defense: White-Collar

5. Litigation – First Amendment

Mr. Lewin will be included in the listings for each of these areas of law practice in the 20th edition of The Best Lawyers in America. He has been voted for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America ever since the first edition of this frequently utilized list of premier counsel appeared in 1983. The listing of lawyers in 128 practice areas is said to be “the oldest and most highly respected peer review guide to the legal profession.”

Lewin & Lewin LLP is a Washington, D.C., two-person firm consisting of Mr. Lewin and his daughter Alyza D. Lewin. Mr. Lewin appears frequently in federal and state courts, including the Supreme Court of the United States, where he has argued 28 cases (the most recent being an 8-to-1 victory in 2012). Mr. Lewin is also an adjunct faculty member at Columbia Law School, where he teaches a seminar on Supreme Court practice. He represented the lead defendant in a three-week criminal jury trial involving four defendants in the Southern District of New York in 2011, and won in the Second Circuit in 2012 reversal of a criminal tax-fraud conviction that followed a three-month trial. In 2013 he has appeared in the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and in federal district courts in New York City and in Washington, D.C.
