Frank Figluizzi, an NBC News national security contributor, said during an appearance on MSNBC Tuesday night that President Trump erred in ordering flags to be flown at half mast because of the mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, because of the importance of Aug. 8 to white supremacists.
Figluizzi, a former FBI assistant director of counterintelligence, said Trump’s move would result in flags being raised again at dusk on Aug. 8.
“The numbers 88 are very significant in neo-Nazi and white supremacy movement. Why? Because the letter ‘H’ is the eighth letter of the alphabet, and to them the numbers 88 together stand for ‘Heil Hitler.’ So we’re going to be raising the flag back up at dusk on 8/8,” Figluizzi added.
“Now, I’m not going to imply that he did this deliberately, but I am using it as an example of the ignorance of the adversary that’s being demonstrated by the White House,” he continued.

Perhaps the government should shut down Interstate 88 and prohibit unleaded 88 gasoline. And perhaps we need to investigate the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Office of Fossil Energy for announcing in January up to $88 million in federal funding for cost-shared research. Maybe we need to investigate foul play in the death of Nobel laureate Toni Morrison who died Monday at age 88. Perhaps we need to investigate Japanese oil and metals company JXTG Holdings whose first quarter earnings fell 88% from the same period a year earlier; the Japanese allied themselves with the Nazis during World War2. Perhaps we need to investigate Washington Referendum 88 which would allow affirmative action policies without the use of quotas in the state of Washington. And maybe we need to investigate the 88 percent of self-identified Democratic primary voters who disapproved of Trump’s job performance in a May NBC/WSJ poll. Maybe we need to investigate a recent Gallup poll which said that 88 percent of Americans think the US economy is in a condition best described as “fair,” “good,” or “excellent.” Perhaps Trump needs to appoint Robert Mueller as a Special Investigator to look into all of these matters.
