nbc-newsNBC News apologized on Tuesday for the way it edited a broadcast of a conversation between George Zimmerman and a police dispatcher before teenager Trayvon Martin was killed by Zimmerman.

Last week Fox News did a report in which it presented “before” and “after” versions of the call. NBC had broadcast the edited exchange on its flagship “Today” morning show.

NBC News launched an investigation after the Fox report.

“During our investigation it became evident that there was an error made in the production process that we deeply regret,” NBC News representative Lauren Kapp said in a statement on Tuesday, in response to a query by Reuters. “We will be taking the necessary steps to prevent this from happening in the future and apologize to our viewers.”

The February 26 shooting death of 17-year-old Martin by Zimmerman, 28, a neighborhood watch captain who said he acted in self-defense, has drawn international attention. The incident occurred in Sanford, Florida.

The Fox News report can be viewed on the website of the News Corp unit.

The “Today” show’s segment ran as:

“Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. He looks black.”

The full conversation ran as:

“Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. Or he’s on drugs or something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about.

Dispatcher: OK, and this guy – is he black, white or Hispanic?

Zimmerman: He looks black.”

NBC News is owned by NBC Universal, a unit of Comcast Corp.

  1. Ah, “unbiased” news reporting at its best.

Unfortunately, all media – without exception – suffer from this malady.

  2. i have a great idea. zimmerman should assuage public rage by apologizing for his”error” and everything will be ok(yeah right) what error?! the intentional falsification of a 911 call.lucky that it was liberal media thatdid this because if limbaugh had done it, there would have been petititon drives against him to make him act more “responsibly”

  3. Why is the dispatcher asking if he is “black, white, or hispanic”? What difference does it make? If he is up to “no good” who cares his race? Where is sharpton & co. on this. They should be screaming bloody murder against the question.
The answer is that everyone (including sharpton) knows the truth, the race does make a difference. People of certain races are more prone to doing “no good” than people of other races. We all know that racial profiling helps, thats why sharpton & co. doesn’t like it. The reason that nobody jumped on the dispatchers question is because they knew they wouldn’t get anywhere. The liberals only pick on stories where they can make noise and be heared. Shame on them and shame on us for falling for their garbage.

  4. Did anybody notice that all the pictures of Trayvon Martin in the media is of him at a younger age. Looking like a cute little harmless kid. But all the pictures of Zimmerman are more like “mug shots”, close up big mean face. If you look at the current pictures of him or at the video of him, he looks a lot different. He doesn’t look as big and he looks less intimidating.
Does anyone realize yet that the media is playing with your minds???????

  5. seems the more we wait the more we learn and see that the liberal left press once again is stirring up roits for no real reason other then to get future headlines what else are they hiding

  6. Non apology. NBC didn’t say they apologize to zimmerman. Only to the viewers. There was no error. NBC cheated, liked etc. and they got caught. I hope Zimmerman sues them civilly for millions.

  7. Is this called “Error”??? It’s called deliberate deceit. Zimmerman should sue NBC. It’s about time that these liberal liars get some good justice for their unshameful distortion of facts.

  8. I actually have a lot of chizuk from this. The incredible degree of open thought engineering is astouning. And in something that that they certainly knew was “asidin l’higalos”. B’ikveseh d’m’shicha chutzpah yasgei.

  9. Just goes to prove how a person who is talking lashon hara can be telling the truth, but a very distorted one at that. P
