President Joe Biden and Republican challenger Donald Trump are tied in the race to win the November presidential election. Trump is currently dealing with criminal prosecution, while Biden faces criticism over his support for Israel’s war against Hamas terrorists, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll.

The eight-day poll, which concluded on Tuesday, found that 40% of registered voters would vote for Biden if the election were held today, with the same percentage supporting former President Trump. This is a slight change from the previous Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted on April 29-30, where Biden held a 1-point lead.

The survey has a margin of error of approximately 2 percentage points for registered voters. With about six months remaining before the Nov. 5 election, many voters remain undecided.

Approximately 20% of registered voters in the poll said they had not chosen a candidate, were leaning toward third-party options, or might not vote at all.

The poll also found that 13% of respondents would vote for Robert Kennedy Jr., an anti-vaccine activist running as an independent, if he were on the ballot with Trump and Biden. In the previous April poll, Kennedy had 8% support. While nationwide surveys provide important signals on American support for political candidates, just a few competitive states usually determine the outcome in the U.S. electoral college, which ultimately decides the presidential election winner.

Both candidates have significant challenges in this first U.S. presidential election rematch in nearly 70 years.

Trump has spent much of the last months in a Manhattan courtroom, facing the first of four pending criminal trials against him, which may be the only one to go before a jury before November.

The trial in Manhattan involves accusations that Trump covered up a payment before the 2016 presidential election. An earlier Reuters/Ipsos poll found a firm majority of Americans considered the charges to be serious. Trump has pleaded not guilty to the charges and denies any such encounter. On Tuesday, Trump’s lawyers sought to undermine the testimony of the prosecution’s star witness, who said Trump authorized the hush money payment.

The other trials involve charges that Trump tried to overturn his 2020 election defeat or mishandled sensitive documents after leaving the presidency in 2021. Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges. Biden’s liabilities include concerns about his age (81) and strong criticism from a segment of his Democratic Party over his support of Israel’s war on Hamas terrorists. Protests have roiled U.S. universities in recent weeks, causing concerns among Democrats that some young voters could turn against Biden.

The poll, which surveyed adults nationwide, included various measures to gauge support for Biden and Trump, 77, and most pointed to a close race. They were tied at 46% each among registered voters when respondents were not given an option to vote for a third-party candidate or say they were unsure who to pick, with 8% refusing to answer the question. Among registered voters who were certain they would vote in November, Biden had a slight 3-point lead. Only two-thirds of eligible voters turned out in the 2020 presidential election in which Biden defeated Trump.

The Reuters/Ipsos poll included responses from 3,208 registered voters surveyed online nationwide.

  1. Both swamp creatures who will drag what’s left of this country further down the abyss. Wake up and vote for RFK jr before it’s too late.

    • It will never happen as RFK Jr has no chance. First of all, unlike President Trump who really made America Great Again and will continue doing so iy”H when he returns, RFK Jr has nothing to offer that’s different than the previous criminal Deep State Presidents, although RFK is not a Deep Stater but his pick for VP is! Besides he’s pro murdering – he supports abortion at FULL TERM. Over 90% of the American people want Trump back already.

      • Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has changed his stance on abortion once again, saying he supports abortion up until a certain point rather than at full term.
“Once the baby is viable outside the womb, it should have rights and it deserves society’s protection,” he added.

        • Who’d trust a wishy-washy man for their president? What credentials does he have?

    • This entire election of President Trump and the fake Biden is a joke and so is the fake poll. They have to make them so close because if Trump is not ready to officially return, i.e. if the swamp is not completely drained, they will reInstall the fake Biden with another “81-million-votes”.
