Early Sunday morning, Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu underwent a successful pacemaker implantation surgery at Sheba Medical Center in Ramat Gan. This came just a week after being hospitalized for dehydration and having a heart monitoring device implanted. The surgery took place on the eve of crucial Knesset votes to pass the first bill of the government’s highly debated judicial overhaul.

The hospital confirmed that the procedure was completed without complications by Dr. Roy Beinart and Dr. Eyal Nof. The Prime Minister’s Office stated that Netanyahu was in good condition and expected to be discharged on Sunday after staying for observation in the cardiology department at Sheba.

A pacemaker is a device that regulates or increases the heartbeat if it becomes too slow or irregular. Normally, recipients are discharged from the hospital either on the same day or the day after the implantation procedure.

Last week, Netanyahu, 73, was hospitalized due to dizziness following an outing to the Sea of Galilee without adequate sun protection. Although examinations revealed his heart to be normal, doctors decided to use a heart monitoring device as a precaution.

Before the surgery, Netanyahu stated in a video message that he was feeling well but had received the recommendation for a pacemaker from his doctors. During the surgery, Justice Minister Yariv Levin acted as the temporary prime minister since Netanyahu needed to be sedated.

The “reasonableness” bill, part of the broader judicial overhaul plan, has faced significant opposition, with protests and demonstrations near the Knesset. Approximately 10,000 reservists threatened to halt their volunteer duty if the bill is passed into law. Netanyahu expressed hope for reaching an agreement with the opposition over the bill, although reports indicated no contact with opposition party leaders over the weekend. Due to the surgery, the weekly cabinet meeting and key security discussions were postponed.

  1. Refuah Shleima! Pacemakers are so procedural these days! Nothing to worry about!
As for the numbers of opposition demonstrators, it’s also Nothing! They make a lot of noise and gain lots of media attention but they’re wholly insignificant in the overall picture. The opposition lost the election, Period! There was an election and they didn’t win. They’re not to be reckoned with. They’re just noisy and have zero regard for anyone other than themselves.
