Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sharply criticized right-wing Yamina party leader Naftali Bennett, whom he accused of turning his back on the political right in favor of establishing a unity government with Yair Lapid, leader of the centrist Yesh Atid party.
“The truth is simple. This will be a dangerous left-wing government,” Netanyahu said on Wednesday evening during a televised speech.
The comments come after Lapid was handed the mandate to form Israel’s next government and less than a day after Netanyahu’s was forced to relinquish his turn back to President Rivlin Reuven.
Netanyahu urged him, however, not to join a coalition formed by Lapid, vowing that he and the leader of Yamina can still form a right-wing government together.
