Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Tuesday mocked Ehud Barak, who served as Defense Minister in Netanyahu’s second government, for a tweet in which the former Prime Minister compared Netanyahu and his wife to French King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette. .

“When the allegations of corruption came, he said: ‘There will be nothing because there was nothing’, and his wife said: ‘If they do not have bread, let them eat cakes.’ It did not help them on Judgment Day,” Barak had tweeted and attached and a picture of a famous painting depicting the execution of King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette.

“Okay, it looks like Ehud Barak has lost it,” Netanyahu tweeted in response to Barak.

Barak, who has consistently criticized Netanyahu in recent months in what many perceive is his preparation for a return to politics, was not done, responding to Netanyahu’s criticism with another tweet.

“A few French paintings caused Netanyahu to lose his balance. If tweets cause this, what will happen in the investigations? In court? And what about running the state? Netanyahu is headed towards the conclusion of his time in office.”
