On the 73rd anniversary of the death of Zionist leader Ze’ev Jabotinsky yesterday, Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu spoke to the Knesset.
In his remarks, he said, “The obstacle to peace between us and the Palestinians is not just fundamentalist terrorist organizations, but the belief that it is possible to destroy the State of Israel.”
Israel’s task is to strike down those who seek to destroy it in order to defend itself and to show that there is no point in continuing an armed battle against Israel, he said. “Only a strong Jewish defense force can promote the peace that we so long for.”

A construction site in the West Bank Jewish settlement of Ariel is just one of many, as multi-storey buildings spring up on both sides.
Travel through Israel and the several disjointed parts known as Palestine these days and the first thing that comes to mind as far as their economies go is: how do they do it?
Given the range of constraints, from Israels lack of natural resources, a certain amount of isolation and its massive defence budget, to Palestines severe physical and political restrictions, it seems incongruous that buildings in worked limestone appear to be going up all over the place.
Parts of West Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Haifa now resemble the smarter suburbs of Geneva, or Paris, and across the concrete wall and razorwire divide, new buildings three or four storeys high are scattered across the low hills surrounding Ramallah in the West Bank.
On most days of the week the street activity and business in these centres goes on late into the night. Entrepreneurship seems to be a byword in the major centres, and even some of the smaller towns are doing relatively well, given that the region is riven by political conflict and uncertainty.
It is only after many interviews and kilometres on the road that a complex economic mosaic begins to emerge that is possibly unique.
