Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu penned an op-ed for The Wall Street Journal, articulating Israel’s post-war conditions.

Netanyahu emphasized the imperative of demilitarizing the Gaza Strip, dismantling Hamas, and undertaking the deradicalization of the Palestinian Arab population. He highlighted the need to prevent Gaza from becoming a launchpad for future attacks, citing the surprise Simchat Torah massacre where 1,200 people were killed and 240 taken hostage.

Netanyahu dismissed the Palestinian Authority as an unreliable partner due to its financial support for terrorists and ongoing incitement against the Jewish people.

“To ensure security, a temporary security zone around Gaza and an effective inspection mechanism on the Gaza-Egypt border are necessary,” Netanyahu asserted.

He underscored the importance of courageous leadership in combating extremism in Gaza, criticizing Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas for failing to condemn the Oct. 7 atrocities. Drawing parallels, Netanyahu referenced the successful deradicalization efforts seen in the Abraham Accords and the post-World War Two transformations of Germany and Japan.

Netanyahu envisioned a post-Hamas Gaza, demilitarized and undergoing a deradicalization process, as a prerequisite for reconstruction and broader peace in the Middle East. He connected this vision to the achievements of the Abraham Accords and the positive transformations of nations like Germany and Japan after significant conflicts. Netanyahu concluded that the destruction of Hamas, demilitarization of Gaza, and the deradicalization of Palestinian society are essential steps toward realizing lasting peace in the region.

In response to international pressure and calls for a ceasefire that would leave Hamas in power, Netanyahu remained resolute. He rejected the notion of permitting Hamas to continue ruling Gaza and potentially carry out similar massacres in the future. Western leaders’ pressure to replace Hamas with the Palestinian Authority faced criticism from Netanyahu, who pointed to the PA’s antisemitism, support for terrorism, refusal to condemn the Oct. 7 atrocities, and ongoing antisemitic incitement.
