According to reports in Israeli media today, Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu expressed his frustration towards Israel’s ambassador to Washington, stating that the envoy should have exerted greater pressure on the administration of US President Joe Biden to secure an invitation for Netanyahu to visit the White House.
This news emerges just hours before Israel’s President Isaac Herzog embarks on a trip to Washington, which will include a meeting with President Biden and an address to both houses of the US Congress.
Channel 13 News, a Hebrew-language news outlet, quoted Netanyahu as telling Israel’s Ambassador to the US Mike Herzog (who is a brother of the Israeli president), “You should be doing more to obtain a White House invitation.”
The report attributed this statement to an unnamed Israeli diplomat.
There is speculation that the apparent snub from the Biden administration may be due to significant disagreements regarding the judicial reforms being implemented by the governing coalition led by Netanyahu in Israel.
