netanyahu1Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu called the decision of a United Nations body to define the Meoras Hamachpeilah and Kever Rochel as Palestinian “absurd.”

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, the U.N. body in charge of preserving historical sites, at the end of its biannual session last week adopted several proposals by Arab states classifying Jewish and Muslim holy sites.

Kever Rochel in Bais Lechem has been identified by Arabs as the Bilal bin Rabah Mosque since 1996; prior to that it was referred to in Arabic as Qubat Rachel.

On the question of what the UNESCO board referred to as the “Bilal bin Rabah Mosque/Rachel’s Tomb,” the board voted 44 to 1 with 12 abstentions to call the site “an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territories and that any unilateral action by the Israeli authorities is to be considered a violation of international law.”

“The attempt to detach the people of Israel from its heritage is absurd,” Netanyahu said in a statement. “If the places where the fathers and mothers of the Jewish nation are buried, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Sarah, Leah and Rachel some 4,000 years ago are not part of the Jewish heritage, then what is?

“It is regrettable that the organization established to promote historical heritage sites worldwide is trying for political reasons to detach the ties between the Jewish people and their heritage. The state of Israel in contrast to its neighbors will continue to preserve freedom of religion at these sites and preserve them for future generations.”

  1. Netanyahu has no claim to Israel or Jerusalem or whatever. He doesnt believe in the Torah. Without that, he has no right to anything. At least the Arabs believe in the Borei Olam. They are closer to Judaism then Netanyahu.

  2. I don’t understand why the Israelis don’t make a bigger show of how the Arabs – pre 67 didn’t proclaim any part of Israel as “holy”. How this is all just a new thing. How the Muslim world STILL don’t see their sites in Israel as holy for their religion and therefore don’t go on pilgrimages there. If the Israelis put out very clear show of this and repeated it at every available opportunity, maybe, just maybe, it will start getting through to the UN’s thick skull!

  3. I said this last week- Cristians, watch out, soon they’ll be transferring the Vatican to the Palestinians.
Or Via Delarosa. Or any of the sites holy to Christian

  4. Who is the UN to tell us what’s ours and what’s not. Leaving our emotions aside, but imagine the UN telling any country what’s theirs and what’s not. Get rid of the UN.

  5. The UN could get a majority for a vote stating that the Earth is flat in no time.
It just has to be sponsored by the Arab League.
