There aren’t that many cultures where putting a shoe on the dining room table is acceptable behavior, but for the Japanese there is clear etiquette against allowing outdoor shoes inside.

After a day of high-level meetings on May 2, Japanese leader Shinzo Abe and his wife were treated to a meal by the famous Israeli chef Segev Moshe at the residence of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife, Sara Netanyahu. The meal was delicious and well received until dessert came in the form of a chocolate assortment served inside a shiny leather shoe.

“This was an insensitive decision,” one unidentified senior Israeli official was quoted as saying. “There is nothing lowlier than a shoe in Japanese culture. Not only do they not wear shoes at home, you also won’t find shoes in their offices. This is disrespect of the first order.”

Israel’s Foreign Ministry said it was not involved in approving the dishes for the meal. Read more at Washington Post.

  1. Respect Bibi. He rests his case. Japan can squish back to its factories in the shoe dessert he served. Too bad Bibi is still thin. More challah would make him more warlike like Ariel. The rational see a gross mistake. Bibi is determined. Life trade. Japan gave us too many video games. Yeshivas shut down.

    Squish squish. They deserve it.

    • On the other hand. Thats Abes foot in Israel. Meant neat. Now Japan gets good word.

Funny culture. I am angry at the games a bit but they build me quite.

Not enough reading ever. Study harder.

      Good.
