Likud chairman Bibi Netanyahu spoke on Wednesday at a conference of the Manufacturers Association of Israel and said that he disagrees with the chairman of United Torah Judaism, Yitzchok Goldknopf, on the need to study English.

“I don’t agree with him, and I as Prime Minister and the Likud will lead the policy,” Netanyahu said, INN reports.  “My perception regarding Israeli children is that English is mandatory, I don’t want to say from the age of 0-3, but I want to start teaching English from a young age, already in kindergarten. We will find a way to bring the charedim, through dialogue, to study these subjects,” he added.

    • Yiddish was a language spoken for over 1200 years and was abruptly stopped in Israel by the Zionists! Shame on Jews who don’t know the Holy Yiddish Language.

  1. When a reporter asked Rav Goldknopf on Wednesday, “Netanyahu says he disagrees with your position on studying English, do you have any response?” Rav Goldknopf replied:
“.אני אשמח להשיב לשאלתך אבל אני מקפיד שתשאל את שאלתך בלשון הקודש”

    • Typical racist comment by a priveliged white elitist like you. Spanish should be the second language after Hebrew. Why should an Israeli speak the language of a racist white country like the United States?! What do you have against Hispanics and blacks?

    • Every Jews MUST know Yiddish. Hebrew should be the second language and English, French, Spanish or Italian a third language.

        • Is this the only reason Jews speak Yiddish. The holy Baal Shem Tov zt”l spoke yiddish and so did ALL gedolei Yisroel for hundreds of years learn Torah in Yiddish.

          • Really? The Ben Ish Chai? The Or Hachaim Hakadosh? All the others from the Sefardic lands?

            None spoke Yiddish.

          • they spoke Yiddish but so did all jews. now the most common worldwide language spoken by jews is probably English. especially considereding Israelis learn english.

  2. At not-yet-a-majority of 61 BiBi should not yet flex his muscles. He needs the Chareidim and they need him. The people of Israel need stability already! A draw in the election results will yield more time with Lapid. Who wants that??

  3. Yiddish wasn’t spoken for 1200 years. Rashi wrote in aramaic and french. All the rishonim and all perushim were written in the languages of their lands or lashon hakodesh. Further, Yiddish is mostly a takeaway of German, so why should that become lashon hakoodesh. The reason English is the secondary language being pushed, is because it’s the most spoken secondary language in the world.

    • Today’s Gedolei Yisroel also write Torah thoughts in Loshon Hakodesh but they ‘spoke’ in Yiddish since the 9th century.
