Each year, hundreds upon hundreds of people gather at Beth Medrash Govoha in Lakewood, NJ, for a Purim mesibah on the first night of Purim, Motzoei Taanis Esther. Each year, the gathering is an uplifting one, with beautiful singing and divrei Torah from the roshei hayeshiva and mashgiach.

Previously, the annual gathering was held in the Israel Henry Beren Hall dining room of the yeshiva.

This year, for the first time, the event will take place in the Bais Aron Bais Medrash of the yeshiva at the corner of Tenth Street and Madison Avenue.

Zemiros will once again be led by Reb Abish Brodt and his sons. The music will once again be arranged and directed by Shloime Friedman of Shloime Friedman Orchestras.

The event will start at 10:45 p.m.

  1. Wondering if the dais would be emptier then in previous years given that 3 of the Lakewood Roshei Hayeshiva are in aveilus – R’ Malkiel Shlita, R’ Yeruchem Shlita and R’ Dovid Shlita all lost their mothers this year.

  2. Good question – The answer is that they were allowed to come, either because there is a halacha of avelus befarhesia – which means that the mourner should not show avelus in public – that it is detracting from the yom-tov. And since he is there every year, people would notice.
Also, the fact that it is one’s job makes a difference also. This may apply to the roshei yeshiva also. And as they say, for all further questions, ask YLOR.
