New Poll Has Christie with Slight Lead on Gov. Corzine

corzine-christieA new poll finds Republican Chris Christie slightly ahead of Democratic incumbent Jon Corzine in the New Jersey governor’s race. The Monmouth University/Gannett New Jersey Poll released today has Christie favored by 39 percent of registered voters, compared to 35 percent for Corzine. It has Corzine slightly ahead of conservative Republican Steve Lonegan, 37 percent to 33.

In a January poll, 38 percent favored Corzine, 36 percent Christie.

Christie, Lonegan and Assemblyman Rick Merkt of Morris County are running in the June 2 GOP primary for the right to challenge Corzine in November.

The poll was conducted with 690 registered voters from April 23-27 and has a sampling error margin of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.
