New Report: 41 Hostages Died in Captivity So Far

An investigation by The New York Times reveals that 41 of the hostages lost their lives while in captivity.

The findings are based on inquiries conducted by the IDF, forensic analyses, and interviews with Israeli officials and the victims’ families. The report indicates that some hostages were killed by Hamas, others perished due to Israeli military operations, and the reasons behind the deaths of the remaining hostages are still unclear.

In December 2023, three hostages were accidentally killed by IDF forces who mistook them for Hamas militants. Another hostage was killed in the crossfire during a rescue mission. The investigation also notes that the deaths of 26 other hostages “remain ambiguous.”

During the massacre, multiple terrorist groups in Gaza took 251 hostages, including both Israelis and foreign nationals, most of whom were still alive. Since then, more than 130 hostages have been released in two separate exchanges for Palestinian prisoners.

Furthermore, security forces managed to rescue eight hostages alive and recovered the bodies of 40 others found in Gaza. Among the 59 hostages who are still being held, Israel reports that at least 24 are confirmed to be alive.
