Robert Kraft, founder, chairman and CEO of The Kraft Group and owner of the New England Patriots, delivered the keynote address and received an honorary doctorate at Yeshiva University’s 85th Commencement Ceremony this week.

    However, it is somewhat disconcerting and disturbing to see the multiple crosses prominently displayed on the garment of the speaker (even though I think they are part of logo of another university).

    He couldn’t find another garment, without six or more crosses, to use when speaking at a YU event?

    P.S. It seems that the Brookline congregation he talks about is not Orthodox.

  2. It’s the Columbia University logo; he graduated in 1965 with a bacherlors degree. Interestingly enough, Columbia University’s seal has the shem havaya on top of it. A bas relief of the seal is embedded in front of the school’s Butler Library, and I always had to remember to walk around it when I was there (’71E, ’77 GSAS)..

    On the other hand, he got an MBA from Harvard in 1965. I think it’s customary to wear the robes of the school in which one got his highest degree, so he probably should have worn one from there, which has a less controversial logo and seal.
