This week, there was a brief Twitter exchange between former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley and New York congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) concerning Israel. On Wednesday, Haley posted a tweet listing congress members who voted against a recent resolution affirming Israel’s stance as “not a racist or apartheid state” and reaffirming the strong partnership between the United States and Israel.

Haley’s tweet said, “We’re taking names,” and she proceeded to list Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Jamaal Bowman, Summer Lee, Ilhan Omar, Cori Bush, Andre Carson, Delia Ramirez, and Ayanna Pressley as the members who voted against the resolution. She accused these nine members of Congress of considering Israel racist and asserted that their vote would be remembered.

The next day, AOC responded to Haley’s tweet on her own Twitter account. She sarcastically wrote, “Oooh, a list!” and suggested an alternative name for it: “People in Congress who think apartheid is wrong” or “People in Congress who don’t ignore human rights abuses against Palestinians.”

In return, Haley had the final word in the Twitter exchange. She questioned why Israel seemed to bother AOC so much, asking if it was because Israel is a democratic and pro-American country or because it is a Jewish state. Haley accused AOC of not expressing the same level of concern over massive human rights violations in countries like China, Iran, Cuba, and Venezuela and suggested that AOC would fit in well with antisemites at the United Nations.

“Why does Israel get under your skin?” Haley asked. “Because it’s democratic, pro-American, or Jewish? You don’t get worked up about massive human rights violations in China, Iran, Cuba, & Venezuela. You all would fit in great with the antisemites at the United Nations.”

Haley served as the US ambassador to the United Nations from early 2017 to late 2018, where she consistently defended Israel against diplomatic challenges from various UN member states. The reference to the United Nations highlights the historic bias against Israel within the organization.

According to a report by the NGO United Nations Watch in 2022, during that year, the UN General Assembly adopted 15 resolutions against Israel, surpassing the total number of resolutions against all other countries combined, which was 13. Additionally, from 2015 to 2022, the UNGA adopted 140 resolutions specifically targeting Israel, compared to only 68 for other countries.

      • I don’t think they’ll use another dead President for 2024 election. But if needed because the swamp draining has not been completely, they’ll go back to the “senile” “Biden” – Didn’t he win 81 million dead votes in 2019?

      • He fired lots of people. That doesn’t mean they’re not qualified or that they’re not רעתה הטובה ממנו.
