ezpass-smallThe New Jersey state senate has voted to unanimously approve a measure that would require the state’s E-ZPass system to display the cost of the toll as drivers go through toll plazas.

Currently, the display system shows drivers that the toll has been paid but not how much has been deducted from their account.

The Truth In Tolling Act was sponsored by Republican Joseph Pennacchio and Democrat Loretta Weinberg and would require the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and South Jersey Transportation Authority to make the change during their next scheduled equipment upgrades.

The measure would not apply to high-speedexpress E-ZPass lanes or to toll booths at bridges and tunnels that are controlled by interstate agencies like the Port Authority.

The bill now heads to the Assembly for consideration.
