NJ Orthodox Jewish Community Meets Congressman Leonard Lance

lance-smallCongressman Leonard Lance (R-NJ-7) recently met in Springfield, New Jersey with representatives of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America. The meeting took place at the home of Rabbi Chaim and Leah Marcus, the rov of OU member shul, Congregation Israel.

Congressman Lance, first elected in November, heard from these leaders concerns regarding the U.S.-Israel relationship, the Iranian nuclear threat, homeland security grants for vulnerable non-profits, the increasing burden of day school education costs, and the proposed Workplace Religious Freedom Act.

Among those in attendance were Rabbi Marcus; Dr. Robert Goldberg; Dr. Leonard Bielory (past president, JKHA/RKYHS); Howie Beigelman, (Deputy Director of Public Policy, Orthodox Union); and Steve Karp (Executive Director, The Jewish Educational Center, Elizabeth, NJ).

lanceThis meeting is part of a nationwide effort by the Orthodox Union’s Institute for Public Affairs to facilitate discussion between its shul leadership and their elected officials.
