Police in Cincinnati will not recommend criminal charges against the mother of a 3-year-old boy who fell into a gorilla exhibit at the city’s zoo, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports, citing sources close to the investigation.
The boy was dragged by a 450-pound gorilla into the enclosure, but came away with minor injuries. The gorilla was immediately shot and killed in order to keep the young boy safe. Read more at the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Why don’t they bring criminal charges against the zoo for negligence? How can they get away with unsafe conditions?
I don’t think the zoo did anything wrong. They took a huge money loss and a significant PR trouble by killing the gorilla so he would pose zero risk to the child (anesthetics take some time to work). The family should have better supervised the young boy but I don’t think they were criminally negligent. Hopefully this will make families more careful when visiting a zoo with young children. We should be grateful that the boy was almost unharmed and that the management had no hesitation in taking, let me say again, a huge money loss.
