The yahrtzeit of Rav Shimon Bar Yochai in Meron on Lag Ba’omer will be marked as in years past, with no limitations due to Covid-19. The news was announced tonight, Motzoei Shabbos, to the great joy of many.
There have been some governmental officials in Israel who were looking to curtail the celebrations, which annual draw hundreds of thousands of people, people a highly anticipated perennial pilgrimage.
Thanks to falling Covid numbers and a massive vaccination effort across Israel, the decision was made to allow a fully open celebration in Meron to mark the hilula of Rav Shimon.
