United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed disapproval on Thursday regarding Israel’s military actions in Syria.

In a statement, Guterres’ spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, conveyed the Secretary-General’s concerns over what he described as “significant breaches” of Syrian sovereignty due to Israeli airstrikes.

Guterres “is deeply concerned by the recent and extensive violations of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Secretary-General is particularly concerned over the hundreds of Israeli air strikes on several locations in Syria,” Dujarric stated.

Additionally, Dujarric noted that Guterres emphasized “the urgent need to de-escalate violence on all fronts, throughout Syria.”

The UN chief also urged all parties involved in the region to adhere to their commitments under the Agreement. “The parties to the Agreement must uphold their obligations under this instrument, including by ending all unauthorized presence in the area of separation and refraining from any action that would undermine the ceasefire and stability in Golan,” Dujarric said.

Following the collapse of the Assad regime over the weekend, the IDF began operations in the buffer zone between Israel and Syria. These actions focused on eliminating potential threats and targeting terror-related sites near the border. During these operations, several decommissioned Syrian tanks were seized.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated Israel’s stance on the matter earlier this week, stating that the country has “no intention of interfering in Syria’s internal affairs; however, we do intend to do what is necessary for our security.”

“As such, I approved the Air Force bombing of strategic military capabilities left by the Syrian military so that they will not fall into the hands of the jihadists,” Netanyahu explained.

He further elaborated by drawing a historical comparison: “This is similar to what the British Air Force did when it bombed the fleet of the Vichy regime, which was cooperating with the Nazis, so that it would not fall into the Nazis’ hands.”

A U.S. official from the Biden administration expressed support for Israel’s actions within Syrian territory after the fall of the Assad regime. Speaking to Kan 11 News on Tuesday, the official noted that Israel described the operation as a “temporary and tactical operation to defend its borders.”

“No nation can tolerate terror groups being right on their doorstep,” the official told the outlet. “Since the Syrian army abandoned its posts in the Israeli-Syrian buffer zone and the area, Israel declared that Syria’s enforcement of the 1974 armistice agreement had collapsed. Israel took temporary actions to stabilize the buffer zone and prevent an invasion of Israeli territory. We hope that in the future we will again see stability in the region.”

  3. The day that this creep Guterres says something pro-Israel, or even neutral like sympathising with the hostages, then they will cart him off to a mental asylum because it means he went crazy…
