Not Remaining Silent

Many have alleged that there is a conspiracy of silence relative to the occurrences at EJF. In an effort to refute those charges, we remind our readers here at Matzav.com of the article written by Rabbi Pinchos Lipschutz of the Yated which was published here this past week.

In pained words directed at the scandal, he wrote as follows:

“We lose track of the course laid for us in the exile by our rabbeim and we let ourselves be compromised by evil people in many different guises. Our senses become dulled by the lure of money, kavod and power. Those who should know better become ensnared with impropriety once they set foot on the compromise’s slippery slope.

“Our rabbeim taught us not to cross the lines of demarcation, and never to blur those lines. Yet we fall prey at times to the spirit of pragmatic thinking which defines our society, and before we know it, we’re up to our necks in muddy waters. We let ourselves be bribed by petty considerations, which blind us to the truth. We like to believe we’re guided by noble motives such as ahavas Yisroel and concern for struggling mosdos haTorah, but in fact we have allowed our judgment to be contaminated by self-serving rationales, forfeiting us of a clear vision.

“Believing that we will escape any repercussions and that the truth will never emerge, we cavort with the corrupt and permit them to enjoy misbegotten power. Before we know it, we’ve allowed ourselves to become dependent on them. One step follows the other as we become compromised and complicit, patronizing and enabling perfidious behavior.

“Following the path charted for us by our rabbeim is often quite lonely and even depressing. The temptation to throw in the towel and join those who make compromises is often overwhelming.

“As one who received guidance from Maranan Rav Elazar Shach zt”l and Rav Elya Svei zt”l, I often find myself contemplating their illustrious images in my mind. No doubt many people share this experience. We wonder what they would say and what advice they would have given us.

“Indeed, as the news of the day unfolds, we wonder what they would say if they were with us today. And we shudder.”

 Indeed, we do.

  1. Dear R. Elisha,

Sorry. I disagree. The fact that you only allude to it is part of the conspiracy of silence. Let’s just say it straight out. Zimri’s sin was said straight out. This aveirah was worse than Zimri’s. Plus the money issues. It is horrifying that Lipa Schmeltzer gets put in cherem for imitating ever so slightly goyisha nigunim, but with gasei gasos aveiros nothing is said.

  2. But who is standing up to tell the world that EJF conversions and halachic standards were also unacceptable under the same leadership. As a Rov I know of DOZENS of cases PERSONALLY that EJF.
    RECRUITED INETRMARRIED COUPLES
DID CONVERSION WITH WEAK KABBOLAS HAMITZVOS
SHOPPED AROUND BOTEI DIN ALL OVER THE COUNTRY
DID GERIUS FOR COUPLES WITHOUT A SPONSORING RABBI

    NO ONE SAID ANYTHING
    WHY?

    1. The head of the organization harassed anyone who even ASKED about their motives
    2. tHE HEAD OF THE ORGANIZATION SPREAD MONEY AROUND COMMUNITIES ALL OVER THE COUNTRY

    3. EVERY AV BEIS DIN AND MANY RABBONIM AND ROSHEI KOLLEL OUT OF TOWN KNOWS WHAT EHF IS. Weak Geirus, Shochad, usuroing local Rabbonim and Botei Din

    ASK THEM!

    However we have no voice…why?

We attack everyone who does wring when we do wrong let’s stand up!

WIthout our leadership we have no voice….there is silence maybe not a conspiracy but silence there is one of embarrassment!!!

  3. THE BOTTOM LINE YOU CANNOT OWN OR PRINT A PAPER OR WEB SITE WITHOUT PROVOCATIVE OR DISTORTED NEWS.
EMES ISN’T POPULAR NOR WILL IT SELL ADVERTISING.
YES WE WOULD BE BETTER OFF WITHOUT ALL THE ABOVE – PAPERS AND (YESHIVISHE MATZAVIM INCLUDED)WEB.

NEITHER RAV ELYA ZT’L NOR RAV SHACH ZT’L WOULD BE PROUD OF OUR PRINT OR WEB NEWS ANYMORE!- WITHOUT EXCEPTION! NO-ONE WILL CONVINCE DECENT THINKING PEOPLE THAT THERE IS ANY DIFFERENCE OF MONEY INFLUENCE BETWEEN THE EJF RABBI AND TODAY’S NEWS BUSINESS PEOPLE- WEB OR PRINT ALIKE.

  4. The Yated is also guilty of endorsing the Pro Mishgav Zachor – Mike Bloomberg for Mayor! Would Rav Schach ZT”L approve of that spiritual crime? Obviously NOT!

  5. The only way to address this is to make a personal stand – as appropriate – against those who continue to associate with people involved. If your rov or your son’s rosh yeshiva is involved with them pick up the phone and let them know that any association is bringing a klolo to klal yisroel. If they tayneh that there is parnosso issues involved, tell them that parnosso comes from the Ribono shel Olam, not Tom Kaplan or his nochshleppers. Don’t wait for erlichkeit and complain when it isn’t forthcoming – insist on it and don’t give up until your leaders reflect the erlichkeit one would expect from manhigei yisroel. That is what R. Aron Kotler did. That is what R. Leizer Silver did. That is what R. Yaakov Kamenetzky did. Human nature hasn’t changed, it is our willingness to accept its downside that has allowed this to happen. A grassroots movement against this corruption – and it is nothing less – is the only thing that might change the status quo for the better.

  6. Shabbos 139a
R’ Elchonon Wasserman – Kovetz Maamorim – Omer Ani Maaseh LaMelech

Divrei Chayim P’ VaYaKhail beginning ViHenei HaChiluk & the next 2 paragraphs

  7. Rabbosai,

The Fact is our dor is Kpnei Hakelev.

I encourage you all to call The Roshei Yeshiva and Rabbonim.

Whatever good they saw in EJF can be done without Tom Kaplan’s money.

The only reason EJF is still open….
IS MILLIONS OF DOLLARS STILL IN ITS BANK ACCOUNTS!!

    LET’S SAY ENOUGH!

  8. On the contrary I would like to pay kudos to the responsible news agencys who adhere to halacha, and resist the popular temtation to comment on matters that there is a issur kabolas loshon horoh.
