now-and-later-candiesMatzav.com has spoken with several kashrus agencies who confirm that Now and Later candies, all varieties, are not kosher. Because, in the past, there was a Now and Later product that was kosher when bearing an OU, some people continue to erroneously assume that Now and Laters are still certified by the Orthodox Union. This is not so. The kosher product was discontinued in 2005.

Presently, Matzav.com has been told, Now and Later candies are produced in a non-kosher facility outside of the United States.

  1. The problem starts with all these candies that are either repacked or in stores without a hashgocha on the package or when they are in stores that say “even though there is no hashgocha on the original package Rabbi so and so says it’s kosher”. There should be a blanket rule ” no hashgocha on the package we don’t use it”. Stickers don’t work either.

  2. I don’t understand why they publicize it so highly when it becomes kosher but not so much when it is no longer? This is true for products and establishments such as restaurants. I hope this is not a money issue. As far as candy, what about “Skittles”? Is that still kosher or was that a misunderstanding too? They still sell it here in my neighborhood but no one believes me.

  3. SAMMY, that makes things clearer. Does that mean that Paskesz has been selling off their stock and that in some markets it has only been recently that Now and Laters are no longer available?

  4. oops me and a couple friends just bought them thinking they were kosher we all ate them on the outer package there is an ou and i remebered seeing it a few yrs ago not on the individual, they said
