Nissim Boruch Black, formerly known as D. Black, last weekend fulfilled a dream he has had since converting to Yiddishekit three years ago: making Eretz Yisroel his home.

Immediately after landing Ben Gurion International Airport, the now-frum rapper spoke of “the last piece missing to complete the puzzle of my life — the land of Israel. . .God, Israel, and the Jewish people are one comprehensive unit, so when you have one piece without the others, it’s an incomplete puzzle.”

Nissim, his wife Adina, and their five children traveled to Eretz Yisroel on a Nefesh B’Nefesh flight.

Originally a secular artist under the name D. Black, he retired in 2011 to focus on his conversion to Yiddishkeit, returning in 2012 under his Hebrew name, Nissim, and began writing from a more religious standpoint.

Damian Black was born in Seattle, Washington and grew up in the Seward Park neighborhood. He was raised a Sunni Muslim but was non-practicing, and converted to Christianity at age 14 after attending an Evangelical summer camp. In 2008 his friend was murdered during a dispute and this trauma began a journey of a personal search, leading to his geirus.

Until moving to Eretz Yisroel, Nissim lived in Seward Park’s Jewish community. Originally married in 2008, Nissim and Adina received geirus in 2013 at the Sephardic Bikur Holim Congregation.

Nissim and his family are settling in Yerushalayim Ihr Hakodesh. He plans to continue making music and will go on a music tour around the world.

  1. I don’t understand the headline: “Now Frum”. You make it sound like he was not frum at one point. He is a Ger Tzedek, who has been frum his entire Jewish life.
