More than 70,000 people are expected to flock down to Nashville for the National Rifle Association convention this weekend, but they won’t be allowed to pack live weapons.

All guns at the convention will have to be non-operational – that is, with their firing pins/strikers removed – and weapons purchased at the convention will have to be picked up later, with an ID, at a gun dealer near the buyer’s home. Read more at the Tennessean.

  1. You’re kidding? They want that people should shop at my local Walmart with an assault rifle on their shoulder, but they won’t let live weapons into their own convention? With all those “good guys with guns” what could they possibly be afraid of?

Or are they just shamelessly hypocritical?

  2. This is not the NRA’s idea. The local government has this requirement for all large conventions and the NRA is not violating local laws. The NRA would definitely be in favor of the participants being armed.
