NSA Collected Emails With No Terror Ties

james-clapperDirector of National Intelligence James Clapper authorized the release Wednesday of three court opinions that revealed the National Security Agency had erroneously collected the emails of Americans who didn’t have ties to terrorism.

The NSA reportedly grabbed 56,000 emails a year over a three-year period. The opinions also detail how the NSA reported the error to the court in 2011 and then updated its collection mechanism in response to the error. The court ordered the agency to limit its data gathering. Read more.
