The union representing New York City’s police officers warned that the city will “fall apart” if the police force is used to enforce social distancing measures.

“This situation is untenable: the [New York Police Department] needs to get cops out of the social distancing enforcement business altogether,” Patrick Lynch, the president of the Police Benevolent Association of New York, said in a statement.

Lynch accused the city’s leadership of providing the police force only “vague” guidelines over how to enforce the measures, and that the criticism of the NYPD’s involvement in making sure people separate from each other was inevitable.

“The cowards who run this city have given us nothing but vague guidelines and mixed messages, leaving the cops on the street corners to fend for ourselves,” he said. “Nobody has a right to interfere with a police action, but now that the inevitable backlash has arrived, they are once again throwing us under the bus.

  1. This mayor, as well as a few of his predecessors, have approached the community from a morally corrupt position. The stand is that you pass laws that make something into a crime, then you enforce that law, and make a ton of money in fines. Essentially, a method of fund raising via law enforcement.

We all want clean streets. But the alternate side parking rules are clearly not designed to insure that streets are clean. Just observe the sweeper trucks that leave behind more litter than they pick up. Just observe the traffic agents obsessed with the “gotcha” tickets. No, the laws are not for a noble purpose. It’s all about fund raising. Ask around how long a traffic court judge lasts if he dismisses too many tickets per month. It’s all about fund raising.

If there interest was really about health protection, there are dozens of ways to accomplish this. The NYPD officers did fine with giving out masks (not in the frum community). There are many other ways. But this mayor will not entertain any other options.

NYPD is correct. This is not their job. They have lots to do, and this mayor has nearly destroyed his own police force with ridiculous ways of non-support. Shame on him. Can’t wait for him to be away from politics.

    • Next guy unfortunately will be worse. Ny going down the tubes again and unlike in the 70’s, the left is sooo far gone, there is nobody to talk to.

  2. He’s right on because officers will not be able to look at their phones as much if they’re busy handing down summonses.

  3. Lynch is a divider. He’s a loudmouth who’s only purpose is to stir up trouble. He expects his beloved police to get paid by the gullible taxpayers for sitting on their hands and doing nothing. What a cushy no-show job.

    • You do it then! You go out and risk your life dealing with 2 legged animals everyday! There are always going to be a few bad apples but as a whole the NYPD officers do a good job under awful circumstances.

      • As with any job, if It’s too tough or stressful, NO ONE IS FORCING THEM TO TAKE THE JOB! Stop with the crocodile tears already. What are they, a bunch of 3 year old wimps?!

  4. social distancing is just a ploy of the new world order, they want to take over the world and control humanity
