smokingNew smoking laws will take effect in New York City Monday, prohibiting smokers from lighting up in certain public places.  No smoking sings are already up in Central Park. Come Monday the city’s sweeping ban kicks in at parks, beaches and pedestrian plazas, like in Times Square.

“I can’t smoke in front of my wife, for example. I would feel it would help me quit. If I was restricted from smoking in public areas, I won’t do it and therefore I’ll obviously smoke less,” said Bill Renny.

The question now is, will anyone obey the law? Mayor Michael Bloomberg has indicated the police are busy with criminals and terrorists and expects the public to give smokers a kindly reminder.

The law was passed as a way to help prevent second-hand smoke.

  1. How about in Brooklyn and not just the city, there are many young children around and people puff those smelly cigars as if there is no one else except them in the world.
