Mayor Bill de Blasio lifted the Big Apple’s controversial curfew a day early in an unexpected announcement Sunday morning.

“New York City: We are lifting the curfew, effective immediately,” Hizzoner tweeted, ending the planned final night of the city shutting down to help curb looting and violent protests that plagued the city earlier in the week.

“Yesterday and last night we saw the very best of our city. Tomorrow we take the first big step to restart,” he said of Phase 1 of the four-part plan to end the coronavirus lockdown.

“Keep staying safe. Keep looking out for each other,” he wrote.

  1. BlahBlasio’s CURGEW was a DISASTER – NO ONE LISTENED. Streets were mobbed by protestors without social distancing – thus afeecting each other with the virus. THUGS and LOOTERS robbed innocent taxpayers of their supplies, shattered the IMAGE of the city and gave NYC a very bad name with a Mayor that has no control.

The NYPD should be AWARDED for trying to do their job “protecting” their LEGAL CITIZENS without any support from the Mayor or Governor.

  2. He is in a rush to end the curfew just when he starts to reopen the city. This way he can claim that any spike in COVID-19 is due to the reopening of the city, not due to the protests/riots. It will give him an excuse to shut the city down again. Yesterday, he said that it takes more than a week for the virus to cause illness, so the spike seen on Friday cannot be due to the protests/riots. On Tuesday, he will say that it is due to the “re-opening” and it only takes a day or two for the virus to cause illness.
