In just over a month, New York City’s speed camera program will get a dramatic expansion—not just in absolute numbers, but in how they track speeding drivers throughout the city.
Mayor Bill de Blasio announced today that the new speed camera program will go into effect on July 11, with about 40 cameras installed every month through the end of the year. By this time next year, the city will have just about reached its ultimate target of getting 750 speed cameras in school zones.
Those cameras will also have expanded hours, tracking vehicles from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., and a wider range of enforcement.

We’ve allowed ourselves to fall under the heavy boot of a Police State! Marshal law to follow. Good bye freedoms. And to think that a sick person like DeBlasio is ruling over us?!
3:43, not to be a grammar nazi, but it’s martial law, not marshal law.
I’m all for red light cameras, but when you’re driving down a long wide roadway like Eastern pky, ocean Pky, Some parts of Mcdonald Ave and many other such roadways in NYC. it’s very hard to keep track of your speed as you accelerate and decelerate with the flow of traffic. This is just another way to make money. By the way These cameras only ticket at 36mph a cop can pull you for even 26mph.
True, but with the school zone cameras, speed limits keep changing, and they’re not clearly marked. I often find myself facing an “End Speed Zone” sign, but have no idea where that 15 or 20mph limit began. That translates into a big cash cow for the city. It’s not about safety as much as it is about “catching” drivers. That is plain wrong.
the only eitzah isbto move out of new York it seems their out to take are hard earned money
Well as Marshall Bloomberg stated, “hey you know, the city needs the money!”
