Inspector Richie Taylor of the New York City Police Department says that there is not current threat to shuls in New York City.

Taylor, the highest-ranked yarmulke-wearing officer in the New York Police Department and the Commanding Officer of NYPD’s Community Affairs Outreach, was responding to a warning today from the FBI’s Newark office that it had received “credible information” about a nonspecific but widescale threat to synagogues in New Jersey. The FBI described the threat, shared by the bureau’s Newark office on Twitter around 3 p.m., as “broad.”

“We ask at this time that you take all security precautions to protect your community and facility,” FBI Newark tweeted in part. “We shall share more information as soon as we can. Stay alert. In case of emergency call police.”

Taylor responded, “In regard to the FBI’s tweet from the Newark Office of a broad, credible threat to synagogues in New Jersey, there are currently no credible threats to the Jewish community in New York City or to any community in New York City.”
