Rank-and-file New York Police Department officers say they are ready to leave the force, claiming no one has their backs amid nationwide efforts to restrict law enforcement.

Since widespread protests erupted in New York City last week following the death of George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man who died while in the custody of Minneapolis police, NYPD officers have endured 12-hour shifts in response to violence, destruction of retail property, burglary, and the vandalism of NYPD vehicles.

“At our level, It’s hard to say, but in the past, you felt like chiefs like [Joseph] Esposito had your back. Even Ray Kelly. Without Rudy [Giuliani], or even with [Michael] Bloomberg, things have changed,” an NYPD sergeant told the Washington Examiner, invoking NYPD chiefs from the past couple of decades and the two most recent mayors of the nation’s largest city.

  1. Fake news. Incomplete shoddy report.

“Rank-and-file New York Police Department officers say they are ready to leave the force”

Really? How many? Most of the department? Part of the department? Which department? Housing? Narcotics? A handful of officers? So unprofessional.
It’s all bogus anyway. The benefits and outrageous pension, at the expense of the gullible taxpayers, are just too good to give up. No one os quitting so fast. This is the shtick/ruse they play every now and then as a bargaining chip to pump up their salaries. WE the taxpayers are the gullible losers on all of this.

    • try reading the link. It states:

      > “The rumor is over 600 went to pension,”

      Wikipedia states:

      > As of fiscal year 2018, the NYPD’s current authorized uniformed strength is 38,422.

So one may think 600 out of 38,422 is not much. But three things come to mind. First, this is possibly only the trickle before the flood. Second, those who are leaving are the the most experienced (“retire” means they have been there long enough to earn retirement) and probably the best, leaving the rest without guidance and mentorship. Third, how will future cadets look – how many will no longer even consider going into policing, and what will be the caliber of those who do join.

  2. No question. They should all leave. Crime will go thru the roof without cops around. Then the top brass will have no choice but to “kneel” to them and beg them to return

  3. Don’t blame them. A lot easier ways to make a living. They should all stage a walk out and see what the city will look like then

  4. Oh no! Who is going to harass our playgrounds now, while letting the “peaceful rioters” psycho-inmates run the asylum! Woe to us, as there’ll be less blood-sucking bedbugs targeting our community in ticketing blitzes!

    • “Who is going to harass our playgrounds now”

Easy. All that will happen is they will send in social workers to take the children away from the parents, citing some child-safety and unfit-parenting mumbo-jumbo.

      • Incorrect. Without any police, if some perverted mishgav zachor social worker tries to kidnap a kid from their parents, we would just beat the living daylights out of them. No cops? All bets are off. You touch me, I touch you.

  5. Would someone explain who sets the policies for the police to run around and give out summonses? Would someone explain who sets the policies that put police on the sidelines during a riot? Would someone explain why the press is allowed to select the Democratic and Republican candidates to the exclusion of all others and only concentrate coverage on them?
