NYPD To Brooklyn Man: Your 311 Illegal Parking Complaints Are ‘Wasting Our Time’

Disgruntled users of New York City’s 311 system have long suspected that the police don’t care about their illegal parking complaints, but they’ve never had much proof. Until now.

“I’m informing you that we are not responding to your calls,” an NYPD police officer told Brooklyn resident Seth Friedman last week in response to his 311 complaints about illegal parking in his Brooklyn neighborhood. “You are wasting our time … with these silly jobs.”

Jesse Coburn of NYC Streetsblog reports that the phone call from the officer, a recording of which Friedman shared with Streetsblog, seemed to confirm the Fort Greene resident’s worst suspicions about the 311 system: that the New York City Police Department purposefully ignores complaints about driver misconduct, emboldening motorists to flout traffic rules and endangering pedestrians and cyclists.

“It feels like the NYPD just doesn’t want to do their jobs, doesn’t want to enforce the law,” Friedman said. “It makes pedestrians and cyclists all across the city less safe when they won’t actually take action and decrease the lawbreaking in our neighborhoods.”

  1. Why do I get the feeling that this Friedman is probably a nut case “progressive” who supports bail reform, doesn’t care about the real crime plaguing NYC? He clearly only cares about evil drivers of vehicles that cause global warming and inconvenience the climate friendly cyclists. What did he think would happen when his fellow progressives disrupted the flow of traffic by forcing bicycle lanes into streets that were never designed to accommodate them in the first place? But leftists only care about their agendas, they never care about how their actions effect others. Just like Friedman doesn’t care that his nonsense complaints are endangering lives by wasting police resources that could be otherwise sent fighting out of control violent crime.

  2. The NYPD are the worst when it comes to parking adherence: just go near any precinct house. They block the crosswalks with impunity. They could care less about the safety of pedestrians. But Heaven forbid you should block the crosswalk, it will cost you $110.

  3. “If the police don’t want to enforce the law, it’s okay with me, ” said long time fugitive murderer and serial killer, Joe ‘Cut Throat’ McGee. “I must have parked illegally over 400 times in the last few years, and murdered at least 75 people in that time-span, and so far so good.”
“One time the police nabbed me,” Mr. McGee said, “but promptly released me because they claimed there was insufficient evidence that city officials have sufficient interest to lock me up.”
“The only ones complaining,” Mr. McGee went on to say, “are those people who are effected by the illegal parking and the murder victims’ families. But aren’t those the same whiners who always complain about everything?!”
“The people who still have their heads on their shoulders, couldn’t care less.” ‘Cut Throat’ McGee added. “It’s only the people who no longer have their heads on their shoulders who complain,” insisted the cut throat murderer.

  4. The NYPD are the worst when it comes to parking adherence:
You really think a cop should have to search for a parking space for his patrol car? I would even argue for his personal car near a precent as well as a courtesy.
