NYT, in First Front-Page Editorial in Almost 100 Years, Calls For Stricter Gun Limits, Ban on Assault-Style Weapons

ny timesIn its first front-page editorial since 1920, The New York Times on Saturday called the United States’ weak gun laws a “moral outrage and national disgrace.”

The Times also said in the editorial that assault-style weapons like the ones used by the San Bernardino attackers and certain kinds of ammunition should be banned, even if it means owners of such things have to “give them up.”

The New York Times’ news-editorial divide is something of a sacred line, but in a statement on publishing the editorial on the front page, Times Publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. said, “We do so today to deliver a strong and visible statement of frustration and anguish about our country’s inability to come to terms with the scourge of guns.” Read more at the The New York Times.
