President Obama and Vice President Biden will not attend the late Cuban dictator Fidel Castro’s funeral, NBC reported on Monday. Castro, who died Friday at the age of 90, will be buried in a December 4 funeral. Multiple other world leaders have also indicated that they will not attend the ceremony, including Vladimir Putin, Justin Trudeau and Theresa May.
After Castro’s passing, Obama released a statement acknowledging the Cuban leader’s difficult relationship with the United States, but offering condolences to the Cuban people. “Today, we offer condolences to Fidel Castro’s family, and our thoughts and prayers are with the Cuban people,” Obama said. “In the days ahead, they will recall the past and also look to the future. As they do, the Cuban people must know that they have a friend and partner in the United States of America.” Read more at NBC NEWS.
