obama-iphoneBefuddled. That’s how one pool reporter described President Barack Obama during a campaign stop in Port St. Lucie, Fla., on Sunday, as the commander-in-chief appeared to have met his match in the iPhone handed to him by an aide.

The president had made a surprise stop by the office to thank the volunteers. He was also supposed to call two campaign workers to personally congratulate them on a job well done, but when White House trip director Marvin Nicholson handed the president the Apple device, Obama struggled to dial out.

“Oh, I got to dial it in. Hold on, hold on. I can do this. See, I still have a BlackBerry,” the president joked, according to the pool report from Politico journalist Reid Epstein.

“I just want to point out, this volunteering is not as easy as it looks,” Obama said. “I’m not the only one.”

However, when the call finally went through, the volunteer (identified as Barney in the pool report) didn’t seem to believe he was actually talking to the president.

“You don’t believe me, do you,” the president said. “It’s true, it’s me.”

During the campaign stop Obama successfully called another worker, however this time the phone–a flip phone–was handed to him pre-dialed.

However, Obama’s love for the BlackBerry is well documented. His addiction to the device–often nicknamed a CrackBerry–was a subject of amusement and some consternation for aides in the run up to his inauguration in 2008.

Ultimately a deal was reached wherein the president was allowed to keep the phone for restricted personal use.

The “geek debate” of BlackBerry versus iPhone started out spirited, but at this point, it seems the iPhone has become top dog in the smartphone world, although it is having to fend off constant challenges from Samsung. The two tech giants arecurrently locked in a contentious patent struggle across multiple continents.

Of course, while Obama may not be an iPhone convert just yet, he seems to use other Apple products. During the president’s Ask Me Anything session on social network Reddit, Obama was photographed using what appears to be an Apple MacBook.

The Obama campaign seems pretty pro-Apple as well. A report in FINS Technology based on Federal Election Commission numbers showed that since 2011, Obama for America has spent $353,000 on Apple products, compared with the $99,000 worth of Apple products purchased by the Romney campaign during the same period.
