President Barack Obama said in an interview published Wednesday that the way conservative media “vilified” him affected his confidence.

“In 2008 I was never subjected to the kind of concentrated vilification of Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, the whole conservative-media ecosystem, and so as a consequence, even for my first two years as a senator I was polling at 70 percent,” he said in comments to The Atlantic. His comments were included in the “My President Was Black” cover story, with interview excerpts released on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Just days before he’s due to hand over control of the White House, the outgoing president opened up about the personal toll the media had on him. Towards the end of the 2008 race, he said, certain news outlets began portraying to voters “some image of me as trying to take away their stuff and give it to black people, and coddle criminals.” That depiction was “deployed in full force” once he took office, he said, “and it had an impact in terms of how a large portion of white voters would see me.” Even now, he said, many Trump supporters “are responding to a fictional character named Barack Obama who they see on Fox News or who they hear about through Rush Limbaugh.” Read more at THE HILL.

  1. i think obama is living in a dream world! fox (& rush limbaugh) villified HIM? what about all the other media outlets villifying Trump—not only villifying Trump, but at the same time acting in collusion with obama, hillary and the rest of the democrat thugs? fox news and commentators like rush limbaugh and sean hannity were a breath of fresh air next to the fake news and collusion perpetrated by the drive by media. they should be ashamed of themselves and so should you, mr obama. the general public is not as stupid as you think they are, barack. they’ve had enough and are bidding you and your bunch, GOOD RIDDANCE.

  2. He was not our president. He was not elected. A mistake in the tabulation due to antiquated counting machines. The government overpaid him. I will not vote for him. He mispronounces my name everytime.

  3. Yes, the media and commentators are unfair and partisan. That’s how it was, is and always will be. Does anyone actually believe that G.W. Bush was treated fairly? Trump is actually being compared to Hitler by several members of the mainstream press. Regardless of who the president is, he will be vilified and hated by millions of people and the best thing he can do is ignore them.

  4. How about the way he vilified President Bush when he was a know-nothing senator with no accomplishments to short for himself? What a disgusting person.
