obama-chanukah1President Barack Hussein Obama issued his well-wishes to world Jewry today to mark the occasion of the lighting of the first Chanukah light in 2011.

“Michelle and I send our warmest wishes to all those celebrating Hanukkah around the world,” the White House statement said.

“This Hanukkah season we remember the powerful story of a band of believers who rose up and freed their people, only to discover that the oil left in their desecrated temple — which should have been enough for only one night — ended up lasting for eight.

“It’s a timeless story of right over might and faith over doubt — one that has given hope to Jewish people everywhere for over 2,000 years.

“And tonight, as families and friends come together to light the menorah, it is a story that reminds us to count our blessings, to honor the sacrifices of our ancestors, and to believe that through faith and determination, we can work together to build a brighter, better world for generations to come.

“From our family to the Jewish Community around the world, Chag Sameach.”

Early this month – on December 8 – Obama set the Jewish blogsphere alight when he jumped the gun and lit all eight candles at once.

Jackie Mason, one of Obama’s most vocal Jewish critics, told Aaron Klein Investigative Radio on WABC in New York on Monday, “You want me to tell you the truth? I don’t think he cares, or knows or remembers which Hanukkah it is, or what Hanukkah means.”

“Obama, along with Vice President Joe Biden and several guests, celebrated Hanukkah at the White House on Dec 8, reportedly so that it wouldn’t interfere with the First Family’s Hawaiian vacation plans,” Mason added.

  1. Wow you guys are ridiculous, does it really make a difference if he lit 1 candle or eight or if he had a week early or not, Its the recognition that he is showing to a religion which matters. It is purely ceremonial.

Since his family is going away on vacation I am sure the white house xmas party or new years parties are not being held on those days.

As the Satmar rebbe just reminded us we must remember we are in galus and not make big deals out of narishkeit.

  2. ARI#2, I must tell you that I dont agree with your attitude in this matter. Concerning obamas family going on vacation I wonder when he will stay in America to see the mess he has created. refering to the Satmar rebber when he said ‘Galut” he is usually meaning Israel.
You said obama was largely ceremonial. YES that i agree while he spits on our TORAH AND ISRAEL.

  3. Obama at his pre-Chanukah “party” at the White House said this about Chanukah: “We never need an “excuse” to have a good party!” Chanukah, to Obama is just an excuse to have a good photo-op to get the Jewish vote in next year’s election. I have a message for him: You are an “excuse” for a president!

  4. Anyone who is even slightly familiar with the history of the world would realize that the outspoken efforts that the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA (currently still the most powerful, influential country in the entire world) in reaching out to Jewish people is a show of respect. To critic him on a serious level is a folly which only an uninformed person which ascertain. Whether President Obama is a jerkstore or not is a different discussion entirely.

  5. ummm in 2005 Bush lit all eight candles on Dec 5 and chanuka was later that year. Hmmmm why the double standard? Never mind Im pretty sure I know

  6. Yup, #2.

Also, he isn’t Jewish, so who cares what day he lights, or how many candles he lights – it doesn’t mean anything.

    Muchado about nothing at all.
