obama-gettysburg-addressWith a touching handwritten letter, President Obama paid tribute to the power of Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address on the speech’s 150th anniversary.

In the note, posted online, Obama writes that he sometimes walks to Lincoln’s office late at night in the White House to look at the original copy.

He ruminated on the lines “a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal,” and wrote: “Lincoln’s words give us confidence that whatever trials await us, this nation and the freedom we cherish can, and shall, prevail.” Read it at The White House.

  1. Original Gettysburg Address: “…that this nation, under G-d, shall have a new birth of freedom”

Obama’s Girsa: “…that THE NATION, shall have a new birth of freedom”

Obama thinks he has “Gadlus”; rather, Obama is “G-dless”

Maybe Obama forgot to plug in “Allah” instead!

  2. Um, no: there’s no “original” Gettysburg Address. There are several copies in Lincoln’s handwriting, and there are variations between them. Obama, at the filmmaker’s request, read a version (the “Nicolay copy”) that did not have “under G-d” in it. This version may, in fact, be the one that Lincoln actually read from at Gettysburg.

    Nice try though.

  3. Most of Americans’ “god” is not the same as our HaKadosh Baruch Hu. Why would you care if the president pays fealty to that?
